The Asian Fund for Cancer Research and the US Chinese Anti-Cancer Association Recognize Young Chinese Cancer Researchers with the 2023 Young Investigator Awards

To foster and strengthen collaborations among cancer researchers and physicians in the United States and China, the Asian Fund for Cancer Research (AFCR) and the US Chinese Anti-Cancer Association (USCACA) have established the Young Investigator Award in Basic, Translational, and Clinical Studies. From 2010 to 2019, 44 Chinese researchers and oncologists at the early stage of their career have been recognized by the award for their outstanding achievements in cancer research accomplished both during their training in the United States and after their returning to China.

In 2023, five young researchers were selected on the basis of their significant contributions in translational cancer research. The USCACA and AFCR proudly presented the Award to the following five outstanding young scientists during the 15th USCACA Anniversary Symposium held in Zhengzhou, China, from 25-26 November 2023:

  • Dr. Ming Yan, Associate Professor Ninth People’s Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. 2018.11-2019.11 Visiting Scholar Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.
  • Dr. Qi Zhang, Associate professor and associate chief physician of hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery, the First Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine. 2016.02–2018.02, Postdoctoral Fellow, National Institutes of Health.
  • Dr. Song Xu, Vice Director, Tianjin Lung Cancer Institute Associate Professor, Dept. of Lung Cancer Surgery, Tianjin Medical University General Hospital. Feb. 2017 – Jan. 2018, Visiting clinical fellow/Visiting scientist, Mayo Clinic, Dept. of Thoracic Surgery.
  • Dr. Tianzhi Huang, Professor of School of Life Sciences,Xiamen University. 2013.08 – 2018.08, Postdoctoral fellow, Northwestern University.
  • Dr. Xu Qian, Professor, Nanjing Medical University. 2013- 2018, Postdoctoral fellow, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.
